The Beginning

I hope this finds you and your families well. As you all know, Carolyn and I planned to be leaving for Africa in about a month, May 24th. Many of you have been incredibly generous in your monetary support, thank you! If you’ve been thinking about putting a check in the mail and just haven’t gotten around to it, I’m still not quite at my goal and every bit counts.

My plans have changed a little. I will still be spending May 24-June 7 with the Grace Community Church team in Mamelodi, SA but now I plan to head down a little early on May 11 and spend some time volunteering at a school near the border of Zimbabwe. Check out their website: buildthenations.org to get some more information on what they are doing for the community of people around them.

So what exactly is the plan?

My flight leaves May 11, I arrive in Johannasburg on the 12 and will be at the school in Thohoyandou on the 13th. As of right now, I'm not exactly sure what I will be doing there but I am in contact with the school director and we are figuring it out. Basically, whatever they need, I'm there for. More on that to come...

On May 24, a team from Grace Community Church from here in Chapel Hill will fly Johannesburg and then travel on to Mamelodi, a small township about 1/2 an hour away. On the 25, I will meet them there and we will be partnering with the ministries of Powerhouse church as they provide for the community and live out God's commandment to love one another in real, practical ways. Again, more details will follow when I have them!

Again, keep praying, we need it!
